Beginning Again

The benefit of a beginner’s mind

Welcome September. I love September for so many reasons! Maybe it is linked to the beautiful weather of my hometown at this time of year. Maybe it’s related to the “back to school” excitement that is embedded in my soul after living years in the rhythm of my childhood education and as an adult working in the school system. That schedule, which breaks for several weeks in the summer and then resumes in late summer, lives in me still as a time of year to “start something new” or return to a new level of learning.  As with the cycle of our “school year” often we find that in yoga we come back and recommit to our practice after a summer experiencing other fun activities. Whether you’ve stayed in the rhythm of your practice, or you’re ready to try something new,  a fresh perspective brings new insights to your practice.

“You must approach everything with beginner’s mind, with an open mind, the mind that is questioning and looking and listening and hearing and seeing and feeling and smelling without prejudgment, without preconception, without fixed views.” ~ Abbess Zenkei Blanche Hartman

This fall at Yellow Tree Yoga, we’re offering several opportunities to come to your practice with a beginners mind. Whether you are beginning yoga as a new experience of learning and growing or you come to your practice from a place of experience  or you are a teacher looking to expand your knowledge base, we have opportunities to extend, learn and grow in your body-mind and life.
Enjoy the freshness of it all!

Yoga: for the love of learning

As many of you know, I’m pretty passionate about kids, reading, and yoga. Combining these all together is a dream come true! This fall, I’ll be completing my training and spending more time with teachers and students as part of the Edcuate2B Program and  Zensational Kids. Here in the studio, as the director of the Yellow Tree Yoga Teacher Training program, I along with other teachers will offer an opportunity for all to grow in their teaching and practice through training and workshops this fall and winter.  To prepare for all of this, you many notice my absence at the studio in August in addition to the scheduled break coming August 10-15. Many thanks to the awesome teachers who are willing to step in  to keep your practice consistent and keep Yellow Tree humming along.  We’re all gearing up to provide a full schedule of opportunities for everyone to practice yoga at Yellow Tree. Keep reading below for schedule updates for August.

Recently I’ve been sharing yoga outside of the studio and have connected with two organizations that help kids. Please take some time to consider how you might be able to support these kid friendly organizations.

As we set our mind for back to school  there is still plenty of time to enjoy the late summer! I hope you do!

As always, my deepest gratitude to all of you for sharing this journey,

Yellow Tree Yoga visited the expanded Reading for Change space at 105 S. Market Street, here in Troy. We are thrilled to be a small part of an organization dedicated to helping kids learn Reading For Change: I spent time teaching kids about yoga. Check out the organization and consider supporting them through volunteering or offering resources.

Lincoln Community Center’s Back to School Bash !

Yellow Tree is proud to be supporting the local Lincoln Center endeavor to provide local students with school supplies and back-to-school haircuts.
Please consider donating any items or, if you’d prefer a monetary donation, we’ll accept cash or check to donate to the center. You can bring them to Yellow Tree any time before August 20th . We’ll deliver to the Back to School Bash on August 21!

Late Summer Schedule Updates: Monday morning and Wednesday evening classes  taking a break.

Thanks to Jennifer and Laura for offering their voices to the extra summer classes on Monday’s and Wednesdays. These classes will take a short break in August. We appreciate all of your feedback and are discussing the options for fall and look forward to what all of the wonderful YTY teachers have to offer. Look for a new schedule in September.

Do you want to hit the books again?

Yellow tree will host two teachers in the yoga teacher training program. If you have an interest in participating, it’s not too late, but please let Mary know. The rest of the YTY community can look forward to some special classes and workshops for anyone who wants to deepen their yoga practice or teaching (and earn CE’s) beginning in September.
