Summer Class Options

Slow Flow Vinyasa: Monday Mornings

We’ve added a few Monday mornings (9am) to the Summer schedule to accommodate our teachers who are on summer break and anyone who wants to add a Monday morning flow to their regular schedule! Join Laura in June (6, 13, 27) and July (11, 18,25) for these additional opportunities for Slow Flow Vinyasa.
Students can expect sun salutations and sequences held for a few breaths in each posture. Newer and experienced yogis will enjoy an energizing and relaxing experience in this class.

Hatha: Wednesday Evenings

This one-hour class with Jennifer Iiames on Wednesdays at 6pm takes a classic approach available to all levels of experience. Focusing on alignment and steadiness in seated and standing  postures, breath work and centering to focus the mind inward and reconnect with the heart, and closing with relaxed and restorative finishing poses. Breathe, relax, feel, watch, allow.

Rise & Shine: Friday Mornings

Start your weekend early… at 7am* on Friday with Lia! This morning vinyasa class emphasizes sun salutations & standing postures. Awaken your mind, body, breath together and establish a steady pace for your day with simple flowing sequences. Ideal for those students who are already familiar with the basics and are looking for a dynamic moving meditation.
*Note the time change along with a slight change of class intention.

Put on your dancin’ shoes for Troy Streets Alive, Friday, May 27 from 5-9pm. Unfortunately, the studio won’t be open, but we hope you will come support the downtown at this annual event.

Growing in our yoga practice

The Yellow Tree Yoga community continues to evolve with experienced yogis (and teachers) and those ready to begin  or reignite their yoga practice. We are happy to have a small and dedicated group of teachers willing to serve the community of yogis who practice at Yellow Tree. We like to keep things local and personal with a community-minded approach. This means growing in new ways, to share the benefits of yoga with everyone. (Coming soon: Hatha yoga,  pre-natal yoga, children’s yoga, and family yoga!)

You may notice that Mary will be away from the studio more often over the next few months to expand outreach programs like Edcuate2B and to facilitate more training for herself and new teachers. All of this comes back to the community as she shares the good teachings with all of us!  The devoted circle of YTY teachers will keep your practice consistent by filling in for Mary when she is away.  If you’ve ever thought about teaching yoga or taking your practice deeper by becoming involved in a formal training, please email Marysoon. She is accepting just a few into a program which will begin in the fall of 2016.

Happy Spring!

Intro to Hatha begins this week

Spring planting and blooming

As I journeyed into teaching yoga, at first I knew I wanted to share the benefits I had experienced in my own life with others. I felt especially drawn toward those who worked every day in schools with students of all ages and abilities. The toll of classroom stress was taking on my co-workers was palpable and I knew yoga could help alleviate this.
Over the past few years, I began to plant the seeds to grow my passion for sharing yoga with educators, both for their own benefit and to eventually get yoga into the classrooms in our community. Fast forward through a few years of teaching yoga to mostly adults, I turned my attention to sharing yoga with kids in real life situations: school.  When I attended the National Kids Yoga conference a few years ago, I researched several programs from around the country that were bringing yoga into schools. In this process I met Allison Morgan of Zensational Kids. Allison and I immediately felt a strong connection. As I looked deeper at her program, I knew her method was the one that would work well in our community.
I’m so pleased to say that last week in Troy, Ohio, we trained over 25 educators to bring the tools of movement and mindfulness into their classrooms with the Educate2B program. My heart is just bursting with joy knowing that now new seeds are being planted and tended for a whole generation of students who will benefit from these tools. Allison and I are collaborating to offer support to these amazing teachers and develop even more programming to continue sharing and growing the Educate 2B program in our local and regional communities.

I’m deeply grateful to all of the teachers and students who together hold space in their lives so that we can  practice yoga together in our community.

Elizabeth Silas, E-RYT, has been teaching and loving yoga for fifteen years, both in big cities and in small towns. Her teaching addresses students’ individual alignment patterns within a sequence focused on the breath. In this way, students can safely release old patterns of moving and thinking within a vigorous practice. She is certified in Jivamukti and Ashtanga schools, and draws on many asana alignment methods as well as Pilates, exercise science, and physical therapy to inform her cueing and assisting. She currently teaches on the east side of Cleveland, where she lives with her husband and two young boys. Find her teaching and writing at

Spring into BLOOM

with Ayurveda* at Yellow Tree Yoga

Springtime is when nature is most lush – the nourishment from winter’s rest pushes forth buds promising the bounty that is to come. Sometimes we feel the same need in our body and mind to clear out, clean up, and release into new patterns.  When we don’t adjust with the shifts in nature, things like seasonal allergies, inflammation, weight gain, and sleep problems can block our bloom.
